a tray of food on a table

Cheryl, Alyson and Dana were amazing. From the moment we walked in Alyson helped walk us through our options, and some local favorites. Cheryl took care of us at the table, informing us about some of the regionalities, the history and sauce options. Dana wrapped our leftovers up, gave us new sauces for the road and made sure we all left fat and happy! Great experience and wonderful food. -Lucas H

Let me start by saying I'm from Texas and know BBQ. I had the brisket tray, okra, and calico beans. I was pleasantly surprised with the brisket.  Very good smoke on it and mostly juicey. I prefer the sweet sauce, and some I thought required some. Excellent BBQ doesn't really require anything. The beans were very good and okra what one would expect. One in our party had the Free Range Chicken...not so free I guess, she was on the plate. It was very good. Green beans were good but room temperature. Final guest had the Catfish Poboy and red beans and rice. The sandwich was very good. Beans and rice were not our party's cup of tea. Overall, we were very happy with the quality of the food and the pleasant service. We would recommend Luellas for a good BBQ experience while in Asheville.

What an incredible experience! The food was delicious, but above all the staff was welcoming and eager to share their insights and recommendations for this amazing city. My daughter and I are driving across country, and wanted to try some NC barbecue. Luella's was the perfect spot! The food, beer, and people were authentic and such a treat. Thanks so much!

Went here for BBQ. Your order your food pay for it and they bring it to your table. We all had the ribs they are smoked and fall off the bone. My only complaint is that there was not enough sauce on them and the side sauce was not enough. They were meaty and tasty and flavorful but lacked enough sauce. Side dish of meat stew was so so. Banana pudding excellent -I5328XMpatriklise

Great spot for a wonderful lunch. Good food and the staff was great. Puppy friendly so bring Fido along. I had the Carolina baked potato and my wife had the Cobb salad. We shared some loaded fries and a nice cold beer. Great bbq options and always nice to have a loaded baked potato. -randyf1970

Great service upon being greeted. Taking orders from the entrance and you pick a seat with a number. Our food came out quickly and it was absolutely delicious. I mean this place is at the TOP for a reason. Hush puppies are soooo GOOD. Wow wow wow. -GG

Leo at the bar was awesome I would have to say you guys need to keep him there, he is absolutely fantastic. I would also like to say the ninja porter breaded ribs $15 are the best ribs I have ever had. -Timothy

This was my first time trying this restaurant. It was very clean and the atmosphere was really relaxed. Plenty of seating inside and out. I wanted to try the ribs but they were sold out which I guess we can go ahead and assume they're pretty good then. I did the combo tray with pulled pork and brisket and then went with the baked beans and mac and cheese for the sides. The pork was very flavorful and cooked perfectly however my brisket was really dry unfortunately. I do have to say though the mac and cheese with some of the best I've had in a long time and the baked beans were also equally good. Great customer service and very friendly. Next time I'm back in North Carolina I will definitely give this a try again and hopefully try the ribs. -Brian J

Luella's is what you'd always hope for in a local BBQ joint: excellent food (definitely try the wings and something you can bury in their mustard sauce), a laid-back comfortable atmosphere, and folks that make you feel like you just walked in the door to home. We got treated like family in the kindest way, and I don't think that was anything unusual here. Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat.
